Meet Raul & Perla

Perla (left) and Raul were both rescued from abusive situations in Spain.

Raul

Raul was rescued by Galgo del Sol in San Cayecano, Spain, on Dec. 3, 2012.

A woman had contacted Tina Solera, founder of the shelter, and told her about how Raul’s owner, a galguero from Lazaronte, Spain, no longer needed him for hunting.

Raul arrived at Galgo del Sol fearful and traumatized, but over the next few weeks Tina worked with him to overcome his fears.

Scott and George saw this posting and knew they could help him. On Feb. 3, 2013, they traveled to Spain to bring Raul back to the U.S. to his forever home.

At right, George arrives at Galgos del Sol near Murcia, Spain, on Dec. 3, 2013, to bring Raul back to his forever home in the U.S.

Perla

Perla was turned in to a perrara – a kill shelter – in Spain on June 29, 2015. On July 2, she was rescued from the perrara by Warren Beards of the Podenco Friends Rescue Center.

On July 6 Podenco Friends placed this post on Facebook, along with a video of her initial terror upon arriving at the perrara.

On Nov. 3, George and Scott made an application for Perla through The Sighthound Underground, a Washington, D.C.-based multi-breed rescue center that helps arrange sighthound adoptions from around the world. She arrived at Los Angeles International Airport on Nov. 19, 2015. Check out a video featuring Perla’s rescue here.
