The following North American-based organizations work directly with rescue centers in Spain, helping to facilitate adoptions of Galgos and Podencos to their forever homes in the U.S. and Canada:
Save a Galgo Español: Save A Galgo Español (SAGE) is a small non-profit based in South Central Pennsylvania founded in 2011 to raise awareness and make a difference in the lives of the Galgo. Their main goal is to educate people about the situation of the Galgo Español through seminars, meet and greet events, and through use of social media. They support local shelters in Spain through fundraising.
Love, Hope, Believe Galgo Adoption Inc: founded by Travis and Amanda Patenaude, LHBG works with multiple shelters in Spain and primarily brings over galgos to the Chicagoland area.
Gulf Coast Galgos: is a nonprofit 501c3 organization dedicated to facilitating adoptions of the Spanish Galgo in the United States. We work closely with Charlotte del Rio of 112 Carlota Galgos in Malaga, Spain to find homes for rescued galgos. We are committed to educating the public about their plight.
Galgos del Sol USA: is a 501c3 established to support the mission of Galgosdel Sol in Spain. Galgos del Sol is a licensed refuge and education center committed to bringing awareness of the plight of galgo and podenco abandonment and mistreatment through education, rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming.
The Rosa Project: The Rosa Project is a unique, individualized rehabilitation project for profoundly fearful podencos. The program has successfully placed many “unadoptable” pods in permanent loving homes since its inception in 2016. The Rosa Project: Restoring Trust, One Spanish Hound at a Time.
Galgo Podenco Support: a volunteer non-profit entity, was established to support the Spanish licensed charity groups that rescue, rehabilitate and rehome abandoned and abused galgos and podencos. Inspired by the tireless efforts of those on the front lines, GPS offers assistance in the way of Medical Emergency Funds, Shelter Aid Funds, and facilitation of adoptions to the US since 2005. Grateful Greyhounds: is a non profit, 501(c)3 organization founded by Lisa Sallie in 1998. GG finds homes for ex racing greyhounds as well as Spanish galgos and podencos. They work with several organizations in Spain as well as here in the US and Canada. Grateful Greyhounds has been helping the Spanish hounds since 2012 and continue to help as many as we can. They are based on Long Island and server the NYC area.
Sanctuary at Bluebird Lane: is a non profit, 501(c)3 organization founded by Alisha Marie in 2022. “We are Wyoming based non-profit dedicated to providing support, transitional services, and a loving home for hounds, burros, horses, and the occasional sheep. Our primary focus is on partnering with Spanish rescue organizations to safely re-home Spanish Galgos and Podencos in the Rocky Mountain Western region of the United States. We are on a mission to spread awareness about the plight of the Galgos and Podencos in Spain and make sure we connect these deserving dogs with exceptional families of their own.”
Senior Sighthound Sanctuary : is a non profit, 501(c)3 organization founded by Tracey McLaurin and based in Stephens City, VA . “Our mission is to give senior and special needs sighthounds a safe, comfortable , & loving home whether it’s with an adopter, a forever foster, or at the Sanctuary where they’re cared for the rest of their life, including those with challenging medical conditions.”
The Sighthound Underground is a non profit, 501(c)3 organization founded by Michael Owens in 2012. SHUG)is a multi-breed rescue formed to rescue, rehabilitate, transport, and support Sighthounds around the world. They adopt to most of the continental USA.
Greyhound Pets of Atlantic Canada: GPAC has partnered with several groups that rescue galgos and podencos in Spain so that they too might find the homes they deserve in Atlantic Canada. With the help of teams of dedicated volunteers, a growing number of galgos and podencos make the long trip from Spain to join the GPAC family.
Carlota Galgo Rescue Canada: is a regsitered non profit organization partnered with 112 Carlota Gaglos in Spain. Their main focus is to create public awareness of the plight of the galgo espanol and to perform fundraising activities in order to support the ongoing operations of 112 Carlota Galgos. In addition they help facilitate adoptions throughout all four Maritime Provinces, Quebec and Eastern Ontario.
Extraordinary Galgos And Podencos: Quebec – They are a large rescue group based out of Montreal Canada. They support both galgos and podencos as well as salukis from the Middle East and many other sighthounds. They serve most of Canada and have a sister organization in Vancouver as well.
